About

The WISE Village is a living and learning community, located in Lee Hall, for first and second year students entering into STEM fields. The Village provides these students with a unique opportunity to live and work together in a supportive community.

What is WISE?

WISE focuses on helping students in STEM fields feel at home at NC State and engage in focused inquiry within their disciplines to help them achieve their educational and career goals in a supportive community with others who will share their interests.

WISE students are connected with upper-class WISE Mentors to ease the transition to university life. The Village offers a variety of academic and social opportunities, including free tutoring for Calculus, Physics, and Chemistry, drop-in advising, workshops, volunteer opportunities, regular faculty interaction, and social gatherings.

Academics

The WISE Village is a supportive environment in which future engineers, mathematicians, statisticians, and scientists engage in focused inquiry within their disciplines and begin to develop the skills and talents necessary to become successful professionals. WISE provides free tutoring for Calculus, Physics, and Chemistry. Tutoring is drop-in with no appointment necessary and conveniently takes place in the WISE conference room, just off the Lee Lobby.

WISE hosts academic enrichment activities throughout the academic year, including: speaker series, industry connections, K-12 outreach, community service opportunities, workshops, and more. All students, regardless of gender, are welcome to participate in these activities! WISE regularly partners with organizations and departments around campus to provide students with as many opportunities as possible. Our Speaker Series are some of our favorite events; students are invited to a lunch or dinner and learn with a faculty member or industry professional in the WISE Conference Room, providing a more intimate connection with campus and visiting professionals.

  • All non-residential programming, advising, and tutoring is open to all NC State students, regardless of gender.

Mission and Goals

The WISE Village is a living and learning community created for first- and second-year engineers, mathematicians, statisticians and scientists. The program combines a group living experience with resident, upper-class mentors who will assist in the transition to university life. Promoting academic success; fostering the formation of lasting relationships with fellow students, professors and mentors; and providing out-of-class experiences are fundamental components of the program. The WISE Village is a supportive environment in which future engineers, mathematicians, statisticians and scientists will engage in focused inquiry within their disciplines and begin to develop the skills and talents necessary to become successful professionals.

WISE GOALS
