Q: What is WISE? The WISE Village is a living and learning community designed especially for first and second-year women majoring in science or engineering at NC State. WISE brings first and second-year female students and upper-class mentors together in Lee Hall, with the goal of enhancing their academic success and providing them with positive experiences as they live and study with others who share common interests.

Q: Do I have to apply to be in WISE? Yes! You have to complete an online WISE application AND a separate online Housing application to be considered for WISE.

Q: How do I apply for WISE? For new students, you are able to apply once admitted to NC State. You will need to submit a Housing and Village application through MyPack Portal. For returning WISE students, apply online starting in the early Spring. Remember that you must also submit a separate Housing application.

Q: Does my preferred roommate also have to be in WISE?  Yes.  Everyone who lives in the WISE Village must be accepted into the program.

Q: What majors can be in WISE? WISE is open to first and second-year women in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Natural Resources, College of Sciences, and the Wilson College of Textiles.

Q: Is WISE just for first-years? No, it is no. It is made up primarily of first-year students, but also includes second-year students and upper-class WISE Resident Mentors and RAs.

Q: Is all non-residential programming open to all NC State students, regardless of gender? Yes!

Q: Where is WISE physically located? WISE is located on the top four floors (6-9) of Lee Hall, as well as part of floor 5. Lee Hall is a suite style co-ed residential building; the WISE floors are single sex, while floors 1-5 are co-ed (suites are all single sex).

Q: Why live in WISE? The WISE Village is a supportive community that offers a variety of benefits for first and second-year female and female-identified students. In addition to living on the same floors in Lee Hall, participants are also provided with upper-class resident mentors.

Q: When will selections for Fall 2025 be made? Selection announcements begin in mid-May and continue until WISE is full.
